English 1500's Man's High Hat

This hat is a wired covered buckram hat. It is covered with a Silk Grosgrain or Faille. The fabric has one color thread in the warp and one in the weft, this means that the fringe is a different color from the fabric. The crown is made up of an oval piece of silk to which are sewn 16 panels of the fabric that have been sewn together with the seam allowance on the outside. These seam allowances are then trimmed and frayed. This gives the dark green edge you can see in the photo.
