Photo 10

Photo 10. Detail of the collar of a chemise that has 13,000 pearls sewn on. Most of the pearls (the round ones) on this chemise are the cheep molded onto a string type. However, when couched onto fabric with gold thread they don't look cheep at all. I used 4 strands of Coats and Clark metallic. This fills up the space between the pearls. One important thing to the look of the final product is to crunch off 3 or 4 pearls at the start of a line and 3 or 4 at the end. Then with a large needle pull the loose ends of the thread to the back of the garment. The pearls were used to edge the collar and to decorate motifs on the collar sleeves and yolk.
