Photo 3

Photo 3. Detail of sleeve. This sleeve is made up of 18 separate pieces. They are sewn together only at the points. I started by taking a modern outer sleeve pattern like a suit sleeve and drawing lines on it, dividing it up into diamond shapes. I cut these shapes up and taped them to another piece of paper and drew seam allowances around all the sides. I cut out two of the velvet and two of the lining for each pattern piece. One set for each sleeve. I sewed each set of pieces together leaving a small opening for turning them right side out. Once I turned them right side out I couched silver cord onto the edge of all sides of the pieces with silver thread. If I had been thinking I could have used silver cord piping it would have gone much faster. I sewed the pieces together at the intersection and added the pearls.
