This style of hat was popular in the French and Italian court in the late 1500's. It resembles the Pill Box hats popular in the 1960's. But is worn far back on the head with the hair tucked inside. The hat on the right has ribbon trim covering the sides and a criss-cross of 1/2" ribbon and 1/8" trim with pearl accents. The cream silk hat on the left has fabric which covers the wired buckram form was already beaded with the cream pearls. The gold metal decorations where added. This hat has sides that are narrower as you go towards the bottom.
