This hat is a wired silk covered buckram hat. It is covered with a linen fabric black with white on the bottom and white with black on the top. It is a Tricorne, there were several popular shapes of hats that where inspired from historical hats. It is very much larger than a tricorne would have been in the 1700's and at that time it would have been solid in color, with much less decoration.
